CPU Observes Parthenium Eradication Week:
A Step Towards Sustainable Development
Career Point University, Kota observed a week-long Parthenium Eradication Week in alignment with ICAR objectives - from campus drives to community outreach at Alaniya village.
Reaffirming its commitment to environmental conservation, cleanliness, and sustainable development, Career Point University (CPU), Kota, observed Parthenium Eradication Week from 16 to 22 August 2026. Organised in alignment with the objectives of the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), the initiative aimed to promote awareness about Parthenium hysterophorus (Congress Grass), its harmful impacts on agriculture, biodiversity, and human and animal health - and the importance of its timely eradication.

Key Activities of the Week
Awareness Lecture - Dr. Shivendra Singh
Dr. Shivendra Singh, Assistant Professor, Department of Agricultural Sciences, conducted an awareness lecture covering identification and spread of Parthenium, its agricultural and environmental impact, and effective methods for its eradication and management.
Campus Eradication & Cleanliness Drive
NSS volunteers removed Parthenium from the ATM area, canteen-to-hostel route, parking area, and area behind the Guest House. Students and staff were also sensitised about its identification, harmful effects, and the importance of timely removal.
Special Programme at Alaniya Village - 22 August
NSS volunteers interacted with villagers and created awareness about Parthenium's agricultural, environmental, and health impacts. Village Sarpanch Mr. Dinesh Sharma attended the programme. Villagers were encouraged to undertake timely collective eradication efforts.
NSS Volunteers - Central Role
Under the leadership of NSS Coordinator Dr. Ratnakar Pathak, NSS volunteers led awareness sessions, eradication drives, cleanliness activities, and rural outreach - developing teamwork, leadership, and environmental responsibility.
University Community Participation
The campaign witnessed active participation from Hon'ble Vice Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) Mayank Saxena, Associate Dean Dr. Gunjeet Kaur, and Assistant Professors from various departments. The collective involvement of faculty, administration, and NSS volunteers strengthened the campaign and conveyed a strong message of environmental responsibility and sustainable campus management.
Contribution Towards UN Sustainable Development Goals
The Parthenium Eradication Week contributed to several United Nations Sustainable Development Goals - promoting agricultural sustainability, health and well-being, clean surroundings, responsible environmental management, biodiversity conservation, and community participation.
