Kota, July 11, 2025 — In a significant academic and scientific milestone, Ashish Kumar and Rajendra Mewara, students of M.Sc. Botany from the School of Basic and Applied Sciences, Career Point University, has successfully published their innovation as a patent. Titled “Innovative Assay for Assessing Phenol Content and Defense Enzymes in Fusarium-Infected Lens Culinaris,” the work has been recognized and published by IP India under Application No. 202511058036, dated June 17, 2025.

This innovation was guided by Prof. (Dr.) Anita Singh, and it highlights Career Point University’s growing contributions to plant biotechnology and applied biochemistry.

About the Innovation

The patented assay is designed to evaluate biochemical responses specifically phenol content and defense enzyme activity in lentil plants (Lens culinaris) affected by the fungal pathogen Fusarium. This technique provides researchers and agronomists with a tool to study plant resistance mechanisms and support breeding programs for disease-resistant crops.

Its key contributions include:

  • Early disease detection in lentil crops
  • Accurate biochemical analysis of plant immune responses
  • Potential applications in sustainable plant disease management

Academic Ecosystem at Career Point University

The success of this innovation reflects the strength of the M.Sc. Botany program at CPU, which is part of the School of Basic and Applied Sciences. The program blends academic theory with rigorous laboratory work, providing students with:

  • Advanced training in plant physiology, biochemistry, and pathology
  • Hands-on research experience through guided dissertation projects
  • Access to modern laboratories equipped for molecular and analytical research
  • Active support from the Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) Cell for patent development

The university extends financial support, lab infrastructure, and faculty mentorship to ensure that students not only learn but also contribute meaningfully to scientific progress.
