Overview

What is the LL.M. Programme?

The Master of Laws (LL.M.) is a postgraduate degree for law graduates who want to gain advanced knowledge and specialization in a particular area of law, such as Criminal Law or Corporate Law. While an LL.B. provides a foundation in legal principles and practice, an LL.M. offers deeper understanding of legal concepts, current developments, and emerging challenges in the legal field. The program focuses on advanced legal research, critical analysis, policy studies, and specialized legal subjects. It helps students strengthen their expertise and prepares them for careers in litigation, Corporate legal practice, legal consultancy, academia, and public service. An LL.M. is also beneficial for those planning to pursue teaching, research, or judicial service examinations.

Scope

Expanding opportunities in judiciary, academics, and specialized corporate advisory

One-year LL.M. enables law graduates to develop specialized knowledge in areas such as Criminal Law and Corporate Law, helping them build expertise beyond the foundational LL.B. curriculum. The program enhances legal research, analytical thinking, drafting, and problem-solving skills, preparing graduates to address complex legal challenges in their chosen field. Specialization in Criminal Law equips students with a deeper understanding of criminal justice, investigation, prosecution, and emerging issues in criminal jurisprudence. Specialization in Corporate Law provides advanced knowledge of corporate governance, mergers and acquisitions, compliance, securities regulation, and business transactions. An LL.M. can open opportunities in litigation, law firms, corporate legal departments, consultancy, academia, and public service, while also strengthening preparation for judicial services, research, and higher academic pursuits.

Structure

The LLM curriculum is divided into foundational papers on advanced jurisprudence, followed by deep dives into your chosen legal specialization.
A mandatory legal research dissertation (thesis) must be submitted and defended to complete the degree.
