Six principles that run every FinTech class.
FinTech is the intersection of finance and technology — and that intersection is where India's most consequential businesses are being built.
Finance first, technology second
Every FinTech concept is introduced through the financial problem it solves first — not the technology. You understand UPI by studying why NEFT was too slow and cash was too risky. The technology is the solution.
Build before you analyse
From Semester 1, students build financial products — a basic payment flow, a credit scoring model, a robo-advisory algorithm. You understand how a product works by trying to build it, not by reading about it.
Regulators are your co-founders
In FinTech, you build within a regulatory boundary that you did not design. RBI's Master Directions, SEBI's FinTech framework, and NPCI's API policies are not constraints — they are the operating environment.
Unit economics determine survival
Hundreds of Indian FinTechs have raised VC and died because their unit economics never worked. Every product built in this programme must have a P&L: Revenue model, CAC, LTV, Gross Margin, and Month of profitability.
AI is a product feature
AI tools are used for credit scoring, fraud detection, and financial advice automation — but always with the question: Is this AI making a decision that has a financial consequence for a human being? If yes, who is accountable?
Portfolio of products, not grades
Graduating students present a documented FinTech portfolio: 12+ product builds and analyses, real financial models, regulatory compliance audits, and internship records. That is what a FinTech hiring manager evaluates.

These are the signature FinTech builds and algorithmic models every BBA FinTech student builds — the ones that populate the portfolio and secure premium startup roles.
Loan Amortization & Net Yield Model
Year 1 · Semester 1 Build a complete loan payoff sheet in Excel. Compute EMI using PMT, EAR, and Net yield of the loan portfolio for the lender after factoring default rates. Metrics: Loan Payoffs, EAR Computations, Default Yields
No-code Expense Tracker & Postman Sandbox
Year 1 · Semester 1 Build a fully functional personal expense tracker in Glide/Bubble. Use Postman to make real sandbox API calls (e.g. Razorpay sandbox) to trigger payments. Metrics: Postman API Calls, Sandbox Responses, Glide UX Layout
Paytm vs Groww Financial Autopsy
Year 1 · Semester 2 Download Paytm and Groww annual reports. Decompose segment revenues (payments, wealth, lending), compute margins, customer acquisition cost (CAC), and month-of-profitability. Metrics: CAC Computations, Gross Margins, Fintech Valuation
UPI Payment Switch Flow Mapping
Year 2 · Semester 3 Design the complete backend architecture for a UPI transaction. Map PSP, NPCI switch, settlement bank nodes, and identify exact points of potential fraud. Metrics: Backend Mapping, Switch Architectures, Fraud Nodes
Credit Scorecard & Loan Underwriter Model
Year 2 · Semester 3 Given bureau logs of 500 applicants, build an Excel and Python credit scorecard weighting alternative factors (e.g., demographics, CIBIL) to predict approval defaults. Metrics: Alternative Scorecarding, Weighting Coefficients, default prediction
SQL Transaction Cohort Analytics
Year 2 · Semester 3 Given transaction tables, write 12 complex SQL queries to identify active cohorts, customer lifetime values (LTV), transaction retention rates, and merchants. Metrics: Cohort Queries, Relational Schemas, LTV Forecasting
Robo-Advisory Decision Flowchart
Year 2 · Semester 4 Design the risk-profiling asset allocation engine for a digital advisor under SEBI guidelines. Map dynamic profiles to mutual funds using logical flowcharts. Metrics: Asset Allocation, SEBI RIA Compliance, Algorithmic Rebalancing
BNPL 24-Month Startup Financial Model
Year 2 · Semester 4 Build a linked cashflow spreadsheet for a Buy-Now-Pay-Later startup in Excel. Track interest expense, write-offs, CAC payback, month-of-profitability, and sensitivity. Metrics: Runway Forecasting, month-of-profitability, sensitivity arrays
Streamlit Credit Default Prediction App
Year 3 · Semester 5 Train Scikit-learn Logistic Regression and XGBoost classifiers in Python. Deploy a web app in Streamlit showing explainability (SHAP values) for borrower rejections. Metrics: XGBoost Credit Modeling, SHAP Explainability, Streamlit Deployment
"EMI on UPI" PRD Writing
Year 3 · Semester 5 Write a professional Product Requirements Document (PRD) for a live UPI credit feature. Define user personas, stories (Given-When-Then), and edge cases. Metrics: PRD Drafting, Product User Stories, Feature Specifications
Embedded Finance API Checkout Design
Year 3 · Semester 6 Map a checkout-embedded financing flow using BaaS API endpoints. Integrate consent screens, KYC verification API triggers, and lender repayment APIs. Metrics: BaaS API Architectures, Consent Management, Digital Checkout
e-Commerce Cohort and LTV Dashboard
Year 3 · Semester 6 Given a 50,000-row transactional database, write Python cohort data scripts. Connect to Power BI to build an interactive dashboard tracking CAC, LTV, and churn. Metrics: Power BI Dashboards, Cohort Retention Curves, CAC payback
Exams are the exception, not the rule.
Traditional memory-based tests contribute less than 20% of your evaluation. Graded projects, product specifications, credit scoring applications, and jury pitches shape your grades.
Live Product Builds (35%)
Coding payment widgets, credit scorecards, fraud rules engines, and analytics dashboards graded on running code.
Product Demo Pitches (25%)
Presenting Lean Canvases, product specifications (PRDs), and venture designs before VC and founder juries.
Internships & Immersion (20%)
Supervisor ratings of your 4 industry touchpoints, including your 12-week embedded Honours capstone.
Classroom Socratic Debates (12%)
Pre-class case preparations, platform economic debates, and ethical tribunal roleplays.
Semester End Exams (8%)
Retained for statutory NEP compliance. Application-focused case reviews rather than direct memorization.
GitHub Portfolio Gate
A critical pass/fail gate. Students must present and defend their complete 4-year portfolio to a panel of FinTech recruiters.
